Francisco Cabán is a violinist and educator whose multi-faceted career spans solo, chamber, and orchestral performance. His collaborations as chamber musician, masterclass clinician, recitalist, and recording artist have taken him to prestigious international festivals across North and South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
His soloist highlights include performances with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Querétaro Camerata in México, and Música Eterna Chamber Orchestra in Cuba. Chamber performances include festivals such as the Casals Festival, Inter-American Festival of the Arts, Clazz International Music Festival in Italy, International String Congress in Spain, and FOOSA in California. His
award-winning recordings Ola nocturna and Ola diurna highlight
under-represented Latin American repertoire, especially the works of Puerto Rican composers Héctor Campos-Parsi, Jack Délano, Nicky Aponte, and Luis Prado. He also recorded Roberto Milano’s Concertino Juvenil.
Dr. Cabán is a dedicated pedagogue and sought after teacher, whose students have soloed with orchestras, won competitions, and continued their studies at institutions such as the Cleveland Institute of Music, Indiana University, University of Michigan, Bard College, and Lynn University. Many of his former students are now members of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, while others pursue careers as educators and freelance musicians. As Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, he founded both the Violin and Strings Festivals, which have featured distinguished artists that teach and collaborate in concerts with students and faculty of the Conservatory. His pedagogical book Scales and Exercises Manual for the Violin was inspired by his work at the Conservatory.
A founding member of Trío Sanromá, in residence at the Puerto Rico Conservatory, Cabán has performed major cycles including the Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms trios, as well as works by Shostakovich, Arensky, Turina, Piazzolla, Miguel del Águila, Raymond
Torres-Santos, Roberto Sierra, Icli Zitella and others.
He currently serves as 3rd Chair of the First Violin Section in the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, having previously been a member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Cabán studied at the Puerto Rico Conservatory and completed graduate degrees at Temple University and the University of Texas at Austin.
